UP North

The second day of our trip we traveled to the Upper Peninsula specifically up to Whitefish Point. The drive was gorgeous with all the fall colors. Devin and I quickly discovered visiting Museums are going to be quite different now that we have a growing family. I think we spent a total of ten minutes in the museums and most of that time was trying to keep Lincoln happy. Gone are the days of reading all the signs and information. We were lucky to get a quick walk through. Remind me next time we plan a trip No expensive adult museums until Lincoln is older. Especially not on day two of a trip. Luckily we were also able to spend some time on the beach. Which Lincoln loved.

After Whitefish Point we took another amazing drive to get to Tahquamenon State Park where we were able to see some amazing waterfalls. We started by taking a rowboat to a little island where we were able to walk around and see the lower falls up close. We then drove 4 miles to the larger upper falls. It was so beautiful we ended up taking a zillion pictures.

Lincoln was so cute. He was a trooper and was so good the entire trip. We absolutely wore him out though!

Mackinac Island

Mackinac Island is well . . . an island. The only way to get to it is to take a ferry!

The island was really cute. They had all kinds of shops and walks. We spent the first little bit exploring the less touristy part of the island and ate breakfast next to the local library with a good view of the lighthouse. It was really pretty. Of course Lincoln just wanted to chase the seagull.

Next we headed to the Butterfly and insect house. I have never seen so many butterflies in my entire life. There were so many different kinds and pretty colors. They especially seemed to like Devin and kept landing on his shirt. I'm pretty sure the blue butterfly stayed on him for a good ten minutes almost the entire time we looked around. (Can you spot the 7 butterflies in this picture?)

Next we walked around town saw some local churches, sampled delicious fudge, and souvenir shopped before we headed off on a horse carriage tour of the island. There are no cars allowed on the island so everyone gets around by walking, horses or bikes (snowmobiles in the winter.)

Our tour guide was really nice (no one laughed at his jokes) you could tell he really loved the island. Especially the history and beautiful woods and sights that make up most of the 3 and half mile island.
Next we explored Fort Mackinac. We pretty much just followed Lincoln around as he ran from place to place. We did get to see them shoot off a canon which was pretty cool! It was our last stop before hopping back on the ferry to start the next leg of our adventure!
